Push Hands - an Exploration
“To know yourself, practice the form. To know others, practice push hands!” (taichibasics.com)
Pushing hands (Tui Shou) is a powerful two-person training method found in all traditional Tai Chi styles. It not only helps you understand the various energies of Tai Chi, but is also the gateway to Tai Chi’s martial origins. Push hands exercises teach you rooting, sensitivity, timing and overall body awareness. You start by developing “ting jin” (listening energy) in order to sense your partner’s movement and intention. Then you work toward the other energies (peng, lu, ji, an) through one-handed and two-handed partner drills.
Allison Deputy and Jarett Sanchez team up in this Push Hand workshop to help you experience more of the depths of Tai Chi that go beyond solo form practice.
